New York City

Georg arrived by ship to the United States and lived for just a few months in New York in 1966. This was the period of Andy Warhol, and hard edge. Georg never copied styles or fashions in painting, but he couldnt help but be influenced by the enormous differences between the old country and the new world, by the tempo of New York compared to Vienna's relatively slower pace. HIs colors changed from soft and shadowed tones to much starker red, white and black. The models were often slightly cut from the edges of the canvas. Although he wasn´t one to philosophize about his work (he preferred to paint) a critic might say that that one could sense a feeling of disconnection from the world and of loneliness. During the years of 68 to 70 in Mexico, these colors and style continued but were softened with the addition of striped sarapes.
